Class size doesn't matter?
For decades some experts have been saying that class size doesn't matter in terms of quality of teaching. According to research
student achievements were not affected by increasing the size of class. Now, some classes in Los Angeles have grown to 50 students,
and the experts somehow got quiet.
Intermediate School 124 in Queens, New York, used to have no classes with more than 30 students in recent years. Now it has 16 of those, including one for English language learners. Teachers are forced to move desks between classes so that all children have places to seat. In many classes, students must share books. Budget cuts forced many schools to reduce number of classes, thus increasing number of students per class.
